2024 New Mexico Cow Elk

December 7-11, 2024

New Mexico (2 SPOTS LEFT)

We completed this Field To Table last year and went 100% on cow elk for our clients.  This one will take place in Southern NM in the Gila National Forrest but will be based out of a very comfortable lodge in Magdalena. This hunt will be a little different in the fact it is a muzzleloader hunt but our outfitter will be supplying custom made muzzleloaders, along with the powder and projectiles needed to perform the hunt. Hunters will have time before the hunt to become accustomed to the firearms.

The terrain in these units varies drastically. Hunters may find elk on the flat Plains of San Augustin all the way up into steep and rugged mountain terrain. In between those two, much of the area is dominated by rolling piñon-juniper woodlands, rising to ponderosa forests and marked by deep canyons and ridges. Elevations range from 6,500 to over 9,500 feet above sea level.

Most of our hunting will take place in hilly and moderately mountainous terrain, at elevations between 7,000 and 8,000 feet. Hunters can expect to cover a lot of ground by vehicle with their guide, glassing and locating elk. We will also cover ground on foot in order to reach vantage points and then to stalk elk once they are spotted.

As with any elk hunting adventure, better physical conditioning can greatly improve your chances at taking an animal. Being able to walk at least a mile or even several miles each day through mountainous terrain will be a great asset.

Next, experienced hunting guides bring guests into the field where they’ll learn about shot placement, and how to care for the animal in the field. This hunt for wild game will take people who prefer grass-fed beef and free-range poultry to another level. This is an ethical and honest experience as nature intended.

Then, after the hunt, guests are cleanly shown how to butcher and process game to respectfully preserve the meat for the table.

Finally, an award-winning chef meets guests in the kitchen. After expert instruction, guests break into teams to cook meat taken from the hunt . They then gather for a meal, a feast in which they’ll feel and know the deep connection we have to our sustenance.
